Beat Story Pitch Competition

Each semester there is a competition among Reporting I students where beat groups from each class will pitch a story to a panel of judges who look for multimedia elements, depth of reporting, newsworthiness and more. Out of the five beat groups in my class, my team won and advanced to the final round. The winning groups from each of the nine classes pitched their story again for a new panel of judges, and my team placed second. Our story focused on how the small-scale gardens at the University of Georgia are working to combat large-scale problems like climate change and food insecurity while fostering good communities among UGA students.
